Shane Prince's Top 15 Albums of 09
Read the title, personal opinion so dont get a big dick if you disagree. Enjoy and read my input. I've been planning to do this for a while but now that the year is near its close, figured i'd finally get it done. With Christmas in like two days, maybe you should consider buying these albums with that Christmas cash or as a gift to someone. Without further ado, my albums of 09.......
15.Wu-Tang Clan- Chamber Music
Release Date- June 30th
Tracks to look out for:
Kill Too Hard
Harbor Masters
Reasoning- The album is overall very good. A few miscues however, only 5 of 9 Wu members are on the album. RZA's skits are kinda boring too.
14. Asher Roth- Asleep in the Bread Aisle
Release Date- April 20th
Tracks to look out for-
Lark On My Go-Kart
His Dream
I Love College
Reasoning- This faggot, er i mean, this guys album is solid for a freshman project. Start's off with a punch in the mouth with "Lark On My Go-Kart" and just goes on from there.
13. 50 Cent- Before I Self Destruct
Release Date- November 9th
Tracks to look out for-
Crime Wave
Psycho
Ok, You're Right
Reasoning- I love 50 Cent's music. This album is his best since The Massacre and overall is a solid underrated album. 50 deserves another chance to be listened to by you.
12. Eminem- Relapse
Release Date- May 19th
Tracks to look out for:
Underground
Deja Vu
Beautiful
Reasoning- Eminem was a bit rusty on this one. When you step away for as long as he did, you kinda lose your touch. However, when you are Eminem, losing your touch a bit is almost unnoticeable. I shelved this album almost right after I got it(due to another album higher on the list). Recently, I have listened to it and it is a very solid album.
11. Jay-Z- Blueprint 3
Release Date- September 8th
Tracks to look out for:
Empire State of Mind
Young Forever
On To the Next One
Reasoning- Some people think this is album of the year. I think it is a disappointment. Being the big Jay-Z fan I am, this album is just radio. Every song is a single. I hate radio which means i hate singles. It does have its bright spots and I do like it but, my expectations were much higher. The other album that dropped September 8th was just a better album all together. Empire State of Mind is an anthem though.
10. Mos Def- The Ecstatic
Release Date- June 9th
Tracks to look out for:
Auditorium
Supermagic
Reasoning- Returning to the roots of Black on Both Sides, Mos Def is a genius. This album got very little promo but it is really good. The song Auditorium with Slick Rick is a classic in my eyes.
9. Slaughterhouse- Slaughterhouse
Release Date- August 11th
Tracks to look out for:
Sound Off
Microphone
The One
Reasoning- The album no one thought would ever be made, was made. All four artists are sooooo good that it just doesn't make sense. I have never seen a group where all artists are just near equally talented. The album starts off strong then kinda tapers off. But overall, good album and leads us to believe bigger better things are possible.
8. Ghostface Killah- Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City
Release Date- September 29th
Tracks to look out for:
Baby
Do Over
Lonely
Reasoning- Not a big fan of the R&B genre unless the artists names are Timberlake or Thicke. Ghost does it though in a way that I love. This is a grown person album, if you listen to Soulja Boy and you like that kiss you through the phone bullshit, you just won't get this album. Songs like "Baby", in which he is talkin about havin a baby with the one he loves is for grown folks, but i understand it and i feel i will become like that one day. My expectations were low, but i was highly rewarded.
7. Joe Budden- Escape Route
Release Date- August 18th
Clothes On A Mannequin
Intro
No Comment
Reasoning- Wow Joey, this was supposed to just be an EP or a delay to the next album, but this album was crazy. The Intro is a knockout and it goes on from there.
6. Joe Budden- Padded Room
Release Date- February 24th
In My Sleep
Exxxes
Pray For Me
Reasoning- The 2nd album of Joe Budden's career took forever to come out!!! However, it was well worth it. If you are dumb, lol this album is not for you. You will have to comprehend a lot more than you are used to in other Hip Hop due to Joe Buddens "Emo-style" rap. Very emotional rap album.
5. Jadakiss- The Last Kiss
Release Date- April 7th
Pain & Torture
Letter to B.I.G.
Who's Real
Reasoning- Jada's Def Jam debut was very good. With cameos from Busta, GFK, Busta and Mary J to name a few, the album works. The single for the album, Who's Real, surprisingly despite the odd combination works somehow. The album is solid and sends Roc-A-Fella off on a high note.
4. Rick Ross- Deeper Than Rap
Release Date- April 21st
Tracks to look out for:
In Cold Blood
Mafia Music
Yacht Club
Reasoning- This will be the most criticized ranking. Look, 50 killed him....i know. But, Ross makes good music that you just can't deny. This guy just knows how to make an album. I like everyone of his albums and this is his best. The beats are all soooo crack which may be the reason I like it so much but Ross is actually a solid lyricist too.
3. Clipse- Til the Casket Drops
Release Date- December 8th
Tracks to look out for:
Popular Demand
Counseling
Champion
Reasoning- Maybe not the album of the year i thought it to be, still a great album from our favorite duo. Love these guys and i love the album. It is hard to out do a classic like Hell Hath No Fury. I personally have began to like Malice more and more and he outdoes Pusha on nearly every track. I just wanna know why the fuck Yo Gotti is on the album?????????
2. Blakroc- Blakroc
Release Date- November 27th
Stay Off the Fuckin Flowers
Coochie
On the Vista
Ain't Nothin Like You
Reasoning- First off, I really didn't know what the album was about until my cousin told me about it the day before it's release. He told me about the song "Coochie" with ODB and Luda. I thought to myself with both of those being favorite artists of my mind i needed to pay attention. So i bought it being very open minded and I loooove this album. It is so good from beginning to end. Lyrically, I am not blown away, but you can just jam to this album. It is just one big jam session.
1. Raekwon- Only Built For Cuban Linx Pt. 2
Release Date- September 28th
Tracks to look out for:
New Wu
Gihad
Penitentiary
Ason Jones
Catalina
House of Flying Daggers
Reasoning- It is so clear, this is the album of the year. Wu-Tang is officially back with a vengeance. The second part to the original took 14 years to come out, but damn, it is almost as good as the original. All you have to do is look at the back of the CD and you know it will be great. First off, every Wu-Tang member besides U-God is on the album. The actual Wu-Tang album only had 5 of 9! Not to mention, many many other features from other artists such as Jada, Styles, Busta, Sigel and Slick Rick. Then there is the production. You have production from 3 of the top 5 greatest producers ever in Dr. Dre, J Dilla and RZA not to mention Erick Sermon, Pete Rock and Alchemist. SMH wow so you already know the beats and lyrics are there. Great album, really no down falls. Sadly, however being the better album on September 8th, it didn't outsell Jay-Z. Good news though is that Wu-Tang is back and will be strong players in 2010!!!!
Thanks for checkin the list, give me some feedback!!!

Release Reminder for December 22, 2009
Nothin really came out. Eminem dropped The Relapse: Refill which contains seven new tracks. I thought it was an EP which i wished for, but it was the original cd and then a separate cd with the 7 new songs. Tons of people have bought Relapse, so why make them buy it again for seven new songs? I dont get it and i didn't buy it. However, if you need your Eminem fix, by all means.
The only movie i see is District 9. I liked the movie, starts off slow but overall is fairly good. I recommend it.

Release Reminder for December 15, 2009
So after last week which had many releases, this week kinda takes a step back. There are only two albums i recommend for purchase this week. Here ya go.
Obie Trice- Special Reserve
Not sure how easy it will be to find this in stores, but Itunes has it. It is unreleased tracks that got him signed to Shady and everything i have heard has been pretty damn good. Lastly, its Obie Trice, one of the most underrated artists i know of.
Download Special Reserve
Robin Thicke- Sex Therapy- The Experience
He is a good artist and he signed to Star Trak which means buy this.
Download Sex Therapy - The Experience
Now for the movies, two big movies drop today.
Inglourious Basterds
Quentin Tarantino at his finest.
The Hangover
My favorite movie of the year and an all time favorite.

Lil' Wayne feat. Eminem- Drop the World
okay, i am not a Lil' Wayne fan past 2007. However, when i saw Em was on the track and I had to listen, this song is ridiculous. I'm lovin it and i think you should give it a chance even if you do not like Wayne, they both go in.

Street Wars- Vinnie Paz feat. Clipse
ok ok, before i get to this song, if you havent already, GO BUY TIL THE CASKET DROPS NOW, IT IS A REALLY GOOD ALBUM AND YOU WILL NOT BE LET DOWN. I bought all three albums i put in my last post and they all are impressive. I have listened to all three at least once. (Clipse twice.) Snoop's is a lot better than I expected actually and Timbaland's CD has all his crazy beats and mostly good content, but just does not live up to the first Shock Value. (I mean Miley Cyrus? come on Timbo!) Now to this, found this on 2 dope boyz earlier in the day but just now gave it a listen. Don't really know much on this Vinnie Paz guy except that he is from Philly, but I didn't download the song because of Vinnie Paz, anytime I see Clipse in the headlines I download. Once again, the brothers don't let us down and Vinnie is not too bad himself. Take a listen yourself, I really dig it.

Release Reminder for December 8, 2009
I've had this day marked down on my calender for some time now. Several big albums are to be released. VA's own "The Clipse" finally drop the long anticipated "Til the Casket Drops"! I urge all of you and beg you to PURCHASE THIS ALBUM!!! PLEASE!!!! Of course I would hope you would buy all the albums I put up here but especially this one since they are from VA and the quality of music they put out is great. Before i reveal the recommended albums for purchase tomorrow, I urge you strongly, DO NOT PURCHASE GUCCI MANE'S BULLSHIT THAT DROPS TOMORROW, IF YOU REALLY PICK THAT DUMB FUCK OVER A CLIPSE ALBUM, YOU ARE A FUCKING DUMBASS. Thank you, I hope he goes double plastic that fucin bum. I'm glad he is in jail, yea i said it.
Til' the Casket Drops-The Clipse
just buy the album, you won't regret the purchase. most likely will be a top 09 album.
Malice in Wonderland- Snoop Dogg
Snoop is a great artist and I recommend any of his cd's.
Shock Value 2- Timbalan
Another one of VA's own and a genius producer, a must have.
Next week will be big for movies, but this week Public Enemies starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp comes out. Do not go into this movie expecting shoot em up type movie. It actually has a story that starts off slow but in the end, its a pretty good movie. I recommend it.

Shuffle........Wu-Tang diss?
Just on the daily walk at ODU, few songs came on that i thought i should share with you all.....
Warriors- Royce da 5'9 feat. Slaughterhouse
crack.
Still Feel Me- Jadakiss
absolutely love this song
Good Times- Styles P
spark it up.
Kick in the Door- Notorious BIG
many people do not know, but this is a Wu-Tang Clan diss.(also Nas) He says this goes out to you ten times, at the time there was 10 Wu-Tang members. The line "throw bleach in ya eye" was a direct shot at Raekwon. The fact is Raekwon and Biggie despised each other. The beef was composed of a few lines and skits in their albums but not all of Wu hated Biggie, just GFK and Raekwon. GFK even broke Mase's jaw due to the low key beef hahah. good song either way

"In My Sleep"- Joe Budden
I tell ya, glad I saw the light and realized how good of an artist Joe Budden is. He has steadily rose in my mind and is in my top five faves at the moment. This guy is sooooo deep. His songs make you think, his content is never about, oh i got some stupid ass chain or half a brick bullshit. You may have to actually have some type of education to fully enjoy his music. Enough with my rant, one of my favorite albums this year was his first of two albums to drop this year, "Padded Room". It truly is a great cd, i encourage you to buy it. This song right here is a personal fave, and it is very deep. They actually made a vid for it, i was quite shocked. Take a listen yourself.

Meth vs Chef Pt. 2
ahhhhhh shit. : ) the fact that there is actually content being leaked from the album makes me too happy. When i first heard about the GFK, Meth and Rae collab album, i thought i'll see it when i see it. Well, it looks like February 2010 is set in stone. GFK is absent on the track but I love the song. First listen and i was addicted. I'm a bigger Raekwon fan than Meth, but i think Meth has him beat on both. : /

Release Reminder for December 1, 2009
yea yea i know im late on this one. been quite busy. Well absolutely nothin sparks my interest for music this week. However, last week, on Black Friday, Dame Dash's Blackroc project dropped. I bought it, and i must say, pure genius. It has artists such as ODB, Luda, RZA, Raekwon, Jim Jones, Billy Danze of M.O.P., Q-Tip and Mos Def mixed with The Black Keys on the tracks. Those of you who download illegally, you aren't gonna find this. So you might as well just fork out the $10 for the album, you will not regret it.
Download right here.
Favorite Cuts So Far:
*Stay Off the Fuckin Flowers feat. Raekwon
*Coochie feat. ODB and Ludacris
*On the Vista feat. Mos Def
*Ain't Nothing Like You (Hoochie Coo) feat. Mos Def and Jim Jones
*Tellin' Me Things feat. RZA
On the movie side, Terminator Salvation came out. I saw it in theaters and i thought it was a solid movie. The Terminator series is very close to my heart since i used to watch Terminator 2 everyday growing up lol, so of course I bought it. Plus it has Christian Bale and Common, you can't go wrong.
